West Nile Virus

Dying from a mosquito bite? You better believe it.

What I don't understand is why so many people are leary of deet. C'mon people...it's been around for decades and nobody ever got cancer from using it. It the only thing proven to ward off mosquitoes. Why the hell would you NOT use it?

Yes, I said "hell" because this fires me up.

You know what else get me?

Ariel sprays. I say...LET THE POISON RAIN DOWN!!

There is a group of people with signs that say "stop the spray"

First of all...Do these organic growing flower power children realize that the pesticide being used IS organic? Yeah, it's made from chrysanthemums (the big puffy looking orange flower). Also the low dosage isn't near enough to harm anyone...not even a fish. They have been spraying in Florida for years.
If I were an environmentalist...I would be more concerned about the effects on wildlife that feed on those bugs that we're killing. However, I haven't heard my thoughts uttered anywhere in the media.
I would utter them myself, except that I happen to care more about people than some fish or frog.

But Kathy, it's a food chain...eventually everything leads back to effecting humans.

Well, Uh, Okay- I guess that justifies letting the young and old die because they forgot to put on mosquito repellent...

Here's a thought...Are we spraying the entire Earth? No. Is every bug going to be obliterated? NO.

Get over it.
Kill those damn bugs!
Kill 'em now!

While we are on the subject of certain "people" in this world being concerned with stupid things, can we please tell that woman (who happens to be from Vacaville, just a bit down HWY 80 from us) to go home and leave President Bush alone! Sorry your son died, but it was not his fault! I'm sure your son would be embarrassed with the way you are treating his Commander in Chief. Your son chose to go into the armed forces and serve his country, and I admire him for that. He knew the risk and was willing to take it. Let it go, get off my TV screen and go home!

As for the little blood sucking bugs, spray them all, it ain't gonna hurt anything but them. I guarantee you that more people will die from West Nile than from exposure to that spray.

Now, now...have a heart. She's a grieving mother wanting desperately to understand the war. Sound familiar?
It does tick me off how she said "I want to know why President Bush killed my son". That is just plain wrong.
If he did meet with her, nothing would be gained. Except maybe an attempt to show the media that he has a heart. But of course they would turn that into something completly opposite.
How did we get on this? I thought I was talking about West Nile?

You were talking about people who make you made (the "no spray crowd") and I just starting talking about people who make me mad (those who want to blame the President for EVERYTHING). These people, and several other groups, need to get over themselves, find some sort of a normal life, and contribute to society instead of just having one big bitch session after another.

Maybe you should write a post about that.

This isn't considered a bitch fest? Sort of sounds like bitching. Hey, I'm not judging, I'm just saying that liberals and conservatives, or DEET users and Tree Huggers have a lot more in common than they think.
Peace, friends.

It's our American right...the freedom of speech. I mean the right to bitch. :-)

So does this mean D.O.N. that you would be in favor of spraying? What about the lady nagging the Pres?

And it's also my right as an American to blame the President for EVERYTHING. God Bless America!

Last time I heard, it's the commander-in-chief's decision to start or stop a war.

Ever heard of "the buck stops here"?

So yes, it is his fault.

The man who died signed up AFTER the war started. He knew when he enlisted that he would be fighting and there would be a good chance that he could be hurt or killed. I doubt he would blame anyone for his death. Most soldiers don't throw blame around and take responsibility for their actions, something most Americans should learn how to do. But that just isn't the way the country is heading. It is always someone else's fault...

I don't agree w/the spraying. We have plenty of other non-detrimental options for that. Shoot, try rubbing a Bounce dryer sheet on yourself. It works!

As for the woman doggin' on the Prez, well, I sympathize with her. I certainly don't agree w/the war in IRAQ directly. I think we should have taken things 1 step at a time and get the guilty party in Bin Laden first. I think terrorism must be dealt with, I'm just not sure structured war is the answer.

But my point was you are both saying this group is having a "Bitch session" complaining about things you don't agree with. Then you turn around and rip them in the same manner. I just found it ironic. I'm sort of tired of the willingness people have to dog on someone they don't agree with on a point b/c they can easily associate them with a stereo-type just b/c they match 1 or 2 traits. It's frustrating. Not all peaceniks are liberals. Not all warmongers are conservatives. But it's easy to try and pin them up that way. It's just lazy, but I'm guilty of it too. I'm trying to get better.

Yes, Hal it is your right to be that hateful and wrong. Why do you always assume it's the Republican President's fault for "EVERYTHING" and so willing to forgive a Democrat President for ANYTHING?

I don't believe we started this war. Yes, we made the decision to go over and fight. The evil didn't just attack us. Now other civilzed countries (unfortunately) is getting a small taste of what America has been put through.
Sorry Panda, unless you have the difficult job of sitting in the drivers seat, you can't judge. It's just not that simple.

I think Brydon's point should be noted again...The boy signed up. There wasn't a draft. He willingly knew the risk and made the decision to die for our Country. How can his mother say that President Bush killed him?

Kathy, you're right. Just like people who use deet know it's toxic, so they shouldn't complain or be surprised when they get cancer. See, we do have common ground!!

There is more to bring us together than tear us apart. We are a united country.

Show me one case where a person died of cancer caused by deet and I'll never use it again!

One more thing...just in case you missed it in my post...the spray IS non-detrimental. It IS organic.

Yes Kathy, HAL is clearly being hateful and wrong. Blaming President Bush for the war in Iraq, and the death of any soldier is out of line.

Even though it was President Bush's decision to start the war.

Even though starting the war with Iraq was illegal.

Even though he manipulated bad intelligence to get us there.

Even though there were no weapons of mass destruction.

Even though there were no ties between Al Queda or the 9/11 hijackers and Saddam's regime.

Even though we have not caught Osama Bin Laden, because we don't have the resources to do so.

Now I'm not saying the Saddam was a good guy, or that he should have been left alone to continue oppressing his people. I'm just saying, maybe there were more pressing issues.

Like the Sudan Genocide.
Like AIDS.
Like Al Queda.
Like 3rd World Poverty.
Like Starvation.

Non of which your beloved President has addressed in an real manner that means anything, or affects change. Rhetoric is nice and all, but where is the action?

Instead we attack Iraq.

So who exactly are we supposed to blame, if not the man who made the decision to invade Iraq? The "liberal" media? Maybe the 26,000 Iraqi civilians that have been killed as a result of our "liberation: efforts? Or perhaps the soldiers themselves?

Who's the one really preaching hatred here?

athenion, you make many assumptions about me, don't you?

Does this line of comments tell you how I feel about the war in Iraq? Does it tell you what I think of our President?

I don't like it when anyone says it's the presidents fault for everything that is going wrong...NOT just the war.

I guess I know how you feel. It's your right to be vocal. Have a nice day, sir.
