The Maui Race

From the copter
Beautiful sunset
This picture doesn't do it justice. The waterfalls I saw from the helicopter were amazing! We also flew right into a rainbow. I only got a bit sick feeling when the pilot kept flying in circles so that we could all see the whales.

In short, I ran the 9.2 mile race in 1 hour and 33 minutes. It was a beautiful run, but my knee is really messed up. I have to go see a doctor before I will run again.

Maui is (of course) beautiful! I flew in on Friday morning and immediately headed for the heliport. We have an agreement with Alex Air and I decided I wanted to go for a senic tour around the island. Luckily they had an empty seat and I got to sit up front on my first helicopter ride. It was awesome!!

The next day I spent most of it on the beach in Lahina.

As for the race...9.2 miles that started in Napaili and ended in Lahina. It was a wonderful run. I never posted this, but I messed up my knee a little while ago and have been resting it until the race, hoping it would just turn out to be something minor.
Well....it started hurting before the first mile. I didn't stop. By the third mile the pain went away. I was so happy and spent the next 5 miles enjoying the view. The last mile almost killed me! I had taken to much water at the aid stations and was feeling very sick.

I crossed the finish line with a time of 1:33:45 and threw up. Not exactly the way I wanted to finish...but hey, at least I didn't stop. I ran the whole race.

The rest of the day I ached in pain as my knee flared up with great intensity. Now I must find time to go have it checked out. But man, was it worth it! Running in Maui...does it get any better than that? I don't think so.

Maui looks fantastic! But I'm sorry about your knee. I hope it does turn out to be something minor-ish -- meaning you get ordered to spend time in a hot tub and with a physical therapist who resembles Brad Pitt, as opposed to the s-word.

As usual, I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks Lucia! I did spend some time in a hot tub...but I think icing it would have been better for me.
Brad Pitt?? Nah, but if it were Josh Groben...
