1998
I have 1998 profile views.
What's it gonna take to get over the 2000 mark? A pair of bouncing boobs? Sorry. I'm not allowed to do that.
Not that I WOULD do that...yikes!
I drove down the canyon tonight, singing as loud as I could. I know I was driving kind of crazy, but not as fast as the person in front of me. It used to scare me- when we first moved here. The canyon is 6 miles of steep, winedy curves. But I'm used to it now. I can anticipate the next turn...in the dark, I know what is coming. Even if I'm singing at the top of my lungs.
"hold back the rain" off my new Wavelength 4 remixed cd. Yeah.
It was a fitting song. Do you ever feel like your life is just going perfect and you worry that it's about to take a major nose dive, because life just can't be THAT perfect? You think...hold back the rain...here it comes, ride the outside lane, cause here it comes!
Can we stop the lows?
I must confess- I've had to much wine tonight. I am feeling drunk. Not THAT drunk cause obviously I am able to write this post- so buzzed- yeah that's it- buzzed.
Does buzzed put you iin a different sort of mind?
Sure it does.
Just don't attempt to drive.
Don't worry-I didn't drive the canyon drunk! I would NEVER do that! Sometimes the alcohol helps- if I've accidently had dairy. opps-cream cheese. oh, no.
how about some wine wiht that cheese?
I'm watching The Aviator.
It's good so far.
Special note - I like the word exhume.
Yeah, I know I've said that before.
smile me!
I don't mind if you're different. I rather like it...

free time...
As much as I hate to be away from my kids, I'm looking forward to the next 3 days. The girls are going to grandma's house. She doesn't get to see them as much since we moved and spring break is a good time to visit. She has big plans for them. Movies, shopping and I'm sure a trip to their favorite fast food joint.
Thank goodness our little town doesn't have any fast food places. Dang- we don't even have a grocery store. We have a bank, the deli, pizza restaurant, chinese restaurant, post office, hair cutting shop, florist, bookstore, general store (complete with worn out old wood plank floors), dentist, pet vet (mostly for horse injuries), video rental (locally owned), the church and the school. That's about it. Not even a stoplight. Yeah know what?....I like it this way, except for the no grocery store part. I would love a LaBou. I tried a Pinini sandwich last week. YUM! Tuscan turkey with sun dried tomatoes.
I won't write a post on Wednesday. That will be my day. All day...just for me. I think I will write tons and tons on my story!
Tomorrow should be a good night to watch "The Aviator". We've had the cd for weeks and simply haven't popped it in yet. Right now the house is buzzing with activity and I can hardly think. Katie and her friend are mixing it up on itunes and Megan is scooping out chocoate ice cream. Michael is at school...Spanish twice a week. I have more laundry to wash.
I'm rambling, yep. I have nothing much to offer in this post. Sorry. I'm already tired, but the sheets aren't dry yet.

How many egg hunts can you have without going insane?
Easter Egg Hunt...take 3!
So How much is too much?
In the last 24 hours my girls have taken part in 3 Easter egg hunts. I fully expect my girls to be generally cranky and unruly, brought on by the hard to avoid "seasonal sugar high."
I can't get too mad at them- I asked for it. Every year I try to maintain a relatively low dose of sugar, but then I tell myself..ah, what the heck, it's Easter!
Boy, it adds up...Chocolate, jelly beans, chocolate, jelly beans, more chocolate!!
It's fine, it's all good...
Reflect. Think. Ask...
Why?
Money?
I hear something!
Yes, our Easter bunny puts coins and dollars in the eggs. It's what I grew up with. Does that mean I spoil them? Yes, guilty as charged. There's a price you pay for spoiling your kids, indeed. Want my opinion? Here ya go...
As long as you balance it and don't let them speak disrespectfully...it's okay.
Lighten up.
Everything in moderation...well, most of the time.
Do they know the Truth?
Finding the balance can be hard for christian parents, but worth the effort. At Christmas we balance Santa with Jesus...at Easter we balance the bunny with Jesus. Do my kids really know the truth?
Of course.
We offer it as much as we can without shoving it down their throats. Wether or not they choose to accept it is up to them.
If you disreguard the holiday icons, you'll raise a child who feels like they missed out on something great. But if you get caught up in the "fun stuff" you WILL miss something great.

Good Friday
So the story goes...
Last friday Jesus rode into town on a donkey. The people cheered and praised him with palm branches. I don't understand why they did not noticed he was riding a donkey? This was a subtle hint that he was coming in peace, not force. He had no weapons, no soldiers...
He did not do what the people wanted him to do. He did not rise up and take his place as King, the way they expected him to do.
They lost faith in their savior.
This is the day Jesus hung on the cross, bleeding from his head, hands, feet and side. "Forgive them Lord, for they no not what they do."
This is fact.
Not a made up Christian story.
It REALLY happened.
Ask any historian, they'll tell you.
He was a real man and he died on a cross, as a criminal.
But where did he go? The three days before he rose from the dead. Where was he then?
This is the question that will be on my lips when I see him.
This is the part that is up for debate.
Was Jesus the massiah? The son of God?
This question may not even form in your mind if you can't even believe in a higher being than yourself. God.
It's a struggle. I know. I've been there.
It's hard to believe in something you can't see. Afraid to follow the masses.
Don't want to be wrong.
But what if you are wrong in not believing?
Faith? What is that?
A word Christians use to fill in the gaps for the things they can't explain.
no.
You have faith already.
You already believe in things you can not see.
Why is this one so hard?
It's your journey. Your search for answers. Is someone with you? Or are you all alone?
Will you go to Heaven when you die? Is there a Heaven?
Do you even have a soul?
Do you have a brain, white and squishy to ponder the magnitude of space?
It's good friday.
At least consider it.

Hope!! There is Amazing Hope!
Check this out! Thea WILL walk again. I know it.
"A neurologist who heads a special spinal cord injury treatment team at the Egas Moniz Hospital in Lisbon, Dr. Lima oversees a group of surgeons in the harvesting of patients' stem cells from their noses. The cells are then transplanted into the sites of the spinal cord breaks."
Translation....paraylzed people are walking!! This is a major medical breakthrough! Get off your Ass America!!!
Stem cells are just cells that don't have a job yet. They can be found in the bridge of your nose. This is why after you have a cold, your sense of smell/taste comes back. Those stem cells were there to regenerate and heal you.
Insert those clean slate cells into a severed spinal cord or a failing heart and they take on the identity of the cells around it. No fear of rejection cause it's your own cells!
(in the case of the heart, stem cells were taken from the patients bone marrow)
I'm learning something new...this is fun!

To Answer Duf
Meeting famous people is fun. We love to say we know somebody that everybody knows.
I've met some other famous people (Rob Lowe, Maria Shriver...)
but this guy is different.
So Duf, this is for you...
His daughter (Hannah) was on my daughter's soccer team and went to our school last year. I wouldn't say our daughter's are friends...they didn't like each other very much! But Thea's daughter (Stephanie) is very good friends with Hannah.
A group of us parents (Thea included) went out to lunch one day after an away game. I had no idea I was sitting across the table from a movie star. I just learned that he likes motorcycles and seems to be a very interesting guy.
His ranch house is a few miles from mine and I see him around town once in a while. It's no big deal.
post script: Thank You Duf!!! It worked!
now about pictures....I downloaded "Hello" to upload pictures to my blogs. That's really the only way I know how...I think DJ is better at it.
Rainy Day
It's really comin down out there!
Today is Tuesday and Thea is getting her very own set of leg braces today. That means we will not be driving to Sac, just Auburn. No therapy today. Thea gets a break from therapy and I get a break from back breaking yard work. Yeah :-) I hope we still get to go out for lunch. Maybe I'll suggest a movie?? I love hangin out with my cool friends! Get it? The name of my town is "Cool"... really, it is. My other best friend is Denise. I need to call her up and say "Hey Denise, let's go have coffee!" Tomorrow is Yoga day. I've never gone to a yoga class, but I hope I can make it this time.
What? How did Thea's driving lesson go?
She said she did very well. In fact she will get her new van this week. Wow. That was fast, huh? I thought it would take a little while to order and have her vehicle delivered. Nope.
I'm a little stressed. My mother-in-law's birthday is this Saturday. I want to paint her a sign, cause I know she's always wanted me to do that, but somehow this always happens. My time runs out.
Here comes that old white rabbit!!
I'm late, I'm late...for a very important date, no time to say hello- GOODBYE, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

Tough day for Thea
You'll have your good days and your bad days.
Well, I wouldn't say that it was really a bad day...but it was hard. I arrived at her house about 9am and soon noticed her right leg was bouncing around from a spasm. It's going to be a difficult day at therapy...I thought.
Leg spasms are not necessarily a bad thing, but when you're trying to walk in braces, it's takes A LOT of upper body strength to make those legs go where you want them to. The resistance is strong. The entire routine is both physically and mentally draining.
"It feels like I'm taking 2 steps forward and 5 steps back." she said.
Joe, Thea's physical therapist disagrees with her.
"No, You are making progress...it's more like 3 steps forward and 1 step back."
I'm no doctor, but here's what I think is going on...
Her medication. Backlaphen (I have no idea if I spelled it correctly- but that's how it is pronounced). That is the medicine she takes to lessen the toneness in her legs. It make the spasms go away. The problem?
The dose was too high last month...made her feel spacey in the head.
Now the dose is too low and mixed with valume...NOT WORKING!
She needs to find a happy medium so her therapy sessions are not too hard. She goes to therapy (an hour away) twice a week.
We left Davis Medical Center with a sigh of relief. Ahh, the hard part is over, now let's go have some fun!
We went out for lunch. Quizno's. Yummy subs.
Then shopped at Walmart and Sam's Club.
After that, we filled the gas tank and stopped at Long's for her meds.
By that time, the evening sun was upon us and home was calling my name.
Today is Friday, March 18th. This is the day Thea has truely been looking forward to for a long time. She had always told her family, friends and doctors that she would literally get back on the horse before she would drive a car...and she has, many times.
Today she will learn to drive.
A man from Chico is coming to our tiny town to teach her how to drive a converted Toyota Sienna.
She's very excited.
Our town has done some fundraising and Thea's family have had to sell a few beloved items (2 horses and a truck) in order to make this happen. They are very exspensive vehicles!
If all goes well, and she likes the van, she will be able to order one for herself.
We both hope that someday she will be able to drive ME to Sacramento for her therapy sessions. It's tough getting a wheelchair in and out of the trunk of her Pontiac Grand Prix! But of course, I don't mind one bit.
THEA (short for Theadora)...is certainly one in a million! A great and treasured friend.

Wireless
I just turned my house into an internet hot spot!
Comcast calls it "Home Networking" I call it "Freedom"
Heck, I don't even have to get out of bed to surf the net now. I can be Lazy! L-A-Z-Y!!
But I won't be.
it's not in my nature.
I don't know...there's something very cool about being able to do the same thing in more than one way. Like getting email. The Apple is very different from my pc. So far, I like the Apple better.
The only problem I have with the laptop is the sound. Songs don't sound as good and the volume is to low.
But maybe it's like that on all laptops- I don't know.
My pc has some pretty rockin speakers!
I hardly ever use my stero system in the living room anymore, and news? By the time I remember to tune in...it's over and I'd have to wait til 11:00. No can do. I'm usually out of it by 10pm.
However, lately I've been climbing into bed around 7:30 and watching Tv for a while.
I'm so tired at night. Probably all the yardwork I've been doing. Wears me out. I need a day. A day to sit. A day to write. Write down the things happening in my mind. Things worthy of writing.
well folks...There's a nice big glass of red wine sitting on the counter, calling my name.
Good-Night.

Finally we've removed enough trees & bushes that you can see our house! Still soooo much to do. See the ditch? It's 95 feet long from the top driveway to the lower driveway. I will be building a retaining rock wall at the bottom of the ditch and backfilling with dirt. It's been eroading for years and needs to be stopped! I can't wait until we can lay down the sod and bring in the bark. I think this weekend for the bark...longer for the sod. Sprinklers need to be installed! My back hurts...
Monday, March 14, 2005
Wow...Monday already.
I finished my earring project, but I haven't taken a picture of it yet because it's not on the wall. I keep changing my mind as to where it will go. So for now- it sits.
I'm onto another project.
This one has been a thorn in my side. A wish on my list. An eyesore.
It's our front yard.
The fence was falling down, the weeds were high and the rocks were plentiful.
Yes...Past tense...were!
This weekend we ripped down the rotted old fence, raked out hundreds of rocks from the future site of our lawn, moved boulders and pulled weeds.
We're ready to landscape!
Sprinklers, top soil, sod, mowing strip boarders, plants, flowers, shredded red bark and a nice sitting area with our angel birdbath. Oh yeah...we'll somehow build a new fence or retaining wall without the ALT office noticing. If they want to, they could fine us for not submitting a plan to the design committee. We'll see. I like to live on the edge! haha.
I won't be anywhere near the computer today, and actually that sounds nice. The weather here has been up into the 80's (setting records).
Bees are buzzing, birds are chirping and my cats are catching new baby lizards.
Spring has come to California.

Project
Hello All,
I've been busy. Yard Work, writing, shopping....and today I started a new project. It's been months since I've picked up a paint brush!!
A few months ago I got my ears pierced. My daughter really wanted to get hers done, but could only find the courage if I agreed to do mine too.
So I did it. No big deal.
Unfortunately Katie decided to let hers close because she didn't want to put tape over them for soccer. (That was the rule...)
That's very nice Kathy, now what's this new project??
Glad you asked. I'm building an earring holder. Actually I'll be mounting a shelf with black iron brackets and using S hooks to attach a board that has been predrilled with little holes. The board will hang nicely from the metal brackets.
I've tried to find something similar to this, but I guess it just doesn't exist. So what do you do when you can't find exactly what you want?
You make it yourself.
It's pretty easy. All I have left to do is drill the holes, attach the chain (I think I'll use old necklaces from my stash of costume jewelry) hang it on the wall...and that's that!
I'll post a picture when I can.

Do you have a life?
Nope.
I just play, play, play all day, day, day.
http://home.comcast.net/~kbattles23/coolestsite.html
I'm learning....
http://home.comcast.net/~kbattles23/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html
Cut the cord Baby! I'm goin wireless.
Home Networking!
Only 2 bucks more than I'm paying now with up to 5 computers surfin the net at the same time. Heck- I could take my ibook and go outside if I so desire.
This must be similar to the feeling my parents must have experienced when they were able to hook up ADDITIONAL TV sets!
I hear people say that TV is a waste of time and that it only lowers your test scores. I say it depends on what you tune into. My daughter's favorite channel is Animal Planet. She learns all kinds of things. It keeps the teacher (and us) in pure wonderment. My other daughter watches the games with dad. Football, basketball, baseball. They relate to each other in sports and TV helps that bond.
Of course it's like all things and moderation is the key.
Oh, but Kathy- what about computers? They are a waste of time!
BITE YOUR TONGUE, OH WRONG ONE!
Interactive and extremely worthy of exhuming a vast array of knowledge!! Like it or not, the globe is changing the way we communicate. The way we learn!
I remember the days when encyclopedia salesmen came knocking on the door, trying to sell you a two grand set of books.
Now- the info you seek is just a mouse click away. Information Highway.
Well then Kathy- If we have all the resources why aren't kids getting smarter?
I would say three reasons...Parents, Parents, Parents!!!!
Kids need support. They need guidance. They need teachers...PLURAL...TEACHERS!
Challenges. Questions. Time. Love. Boundaries. Commitment. Discipline. Role Models. Heros. Friends. Freedom. Routines. Tools.
Give them the tools. Be their hero.
I cried the other night when my 12 year old gave me a card she made. It said I was her hero. Want to see? I'll try scanning it.
wireless...it's about time for me. Can I wait til the 16th for installation?
Actually- where I live, I'm lucky to have high speed internet at all!

Like a Ridged Cove, I long for more.
Where are the wild things
that flow from my heart?
hide them and scold them
now is that so smart?
I'm just one another
walk through me like dust
part of the air
to linger and rust
deny me your love
I laugh at the dew
that lies on my lips
stinging so blue
We live in this time
you lived in the past
when faces were faces
within me to grasp
The years on the cove
scar deep in the sand
give me another
from your guided hand
Reach up and just take it
the life you desire
burning inside
eternal fire.
Author's comment: Don't know where this came from. I'm just sitting here on a late Sunday...thinking, wishing, wanting.
What does it mean to you?
Sunday, Sunny Sunday
Sorry U2 fans...I just couldn't resist.
It's gorgeous today! Sunny. Sunny. Sunny.
It should be a great day.

DURAN DURAN!
Happy Birthday to me....again... this concert was also a gift. I don't think I've ever had my birthday last so long?!?!
First we went to dinner. Good thing we made a reservation. Lucca's was packed! Very nice place. Perfect location, only a few steps from the Memorial Auditorium.
The opening act was awful. Sad really. He was a skinny man, dressed in a blue suit and hopped all over the stage like he was crazy. I couldn't wait for him to be finished.
Finally at 9pm Simon, Roger, Nick, John and Andy walked onto the stage all wearing white shirts and black ties.
WHAT A SHOW!!
For 2 1/2 hours they rocked the place and kept me laughin, singin, dancin and shoutin.
Voice? What voice?
